LEADERS IN EARTHQUAKE RISK MANAGEMENT
Yanev Associates are leading global experts in earthquake risk management. We specialize in earthquake and natural hazards risk assessment, earthquake engineering, and loss control. We have offices in Northern and Southern California and New York, and we work throughout the earthquake regions of the United States and the world.

Our services include earthquake risk management programs for corporate, industrial, nuclear, and residential clients worldwide. We help clients assess their risks, develop long-term risk mitigation strategies, and carry out targeted risk improvements to reduce their risks. Our unique consulting approach saves time and money over traditional engineering programs, and results in tangible reductions in risk.

Yanev Associates has a long history of working with insurers and reinsurers to quantify risks, improve portfolios, increase capital efficiency, and avoid blind spots. We have a deep expertise in deterministic and probabilistic modeling, especially how to compensate for their shortcomings. In the nuclear industry, we are leaders at experience-based Seismic Margin Assessments, Probabilistic Risk Assessments, and related services.

Peter Yanev is one of the world’s leading authorities in earthquake engineering and earthquake risk management. In 1981, Peter founded EQE International, a leading global earthquake engineering firm. In 1984 he founded EQECAT, one of the three original catastrophe modeling firms. In addition to his role at Yanev Associates, Peter is currently the senior consultant to the World Bank for natural hazards projects. He is also on three academic boards at Berkeley & MIT, his alma mater.

Peter has investigated the real-world effects of over 102 earthquakes around the world since 1971. Most recently, Yanev Associates has investigated earthquakes in Chile, Japan, and Turkey. In 2012, Yanev Associates co-organized an International Atomic Energy Agency mission to study the effects of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake on the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station near Sendai, Japan. Peter Yanev and Andy Thompson are co-authors of Peace of Mind in Earthquake Country, the best-selling earthquake preparedness guide for homeowners.
